The state funeral director associations from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, through the Northeast Funeral Service Partnership, recognizes that an organization is only as strong as its leaders. To ensure the continued success of our collective state associations, and to develop the funeral service leaders of tomorrow, the associations are hosting a leadership academy. The 2022 Northeast Funeral Service Leadership Academy kicked off March 29 with 12 funeral directors from the five states gathering for the opening session at NYSFDA headquarters in Albany, NY. Read more.
Goals of the Leadership Academy:
- To identify, inspire and mentor emerging leaders in funeral service
- To provide leadership development training programs tailored specifically to funeral director associations
- To facilitate the promotion of new funeral directors into leadership positions at the state and local level
The program involves:
- A leadership development workshop
- Webinar programs
- A group project
Topics covered include:
- Leadership skills
- The role of associations
- Roles and responsibilities of a board of directors
- Public speaking and presentation skills
Understanding that this program will require time and energy spent outside the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the funeral home, it’s important that each participant has the support – and endorsement – of their owner/manager back home.
Upon completion, participants will be prepared and encouraged to:
- Serve in a leadership role in their local funeral directors association or chapter
- Serve on a state association committee
