NYS
FUNERAL DIRECTORS PROVIDE CONSUMERS CREMATION INFORMATION ON WEBSITE
Albany,
NY -- March 6 -- The New York State Funeral Directors Association
(NYSFDA) has posted consumer information on its Web site (www.nysfda.org)
regarding New York State cremation laws, procedures and practices.
NYSFDA is providing this information to reassure consumers who may
have questions in light of the recent events in Georgia .
"NewYork
State residents who may be considering cremation need as much information
as possible so that they may make an informed choice as to their
preferred method of final disposition," said Mark C. Kowalczyk,
NYSFDA President.
This
new information on the NYSFDA Web site includes a summary of the
laws and regulations governing cremation in New York State , as
well as a Cremation Consumer Resource Guide in "Q and
A" format that provides even more specific information about cremation.
"Although
the great majority of crematories in New York State are operated
by cemetery corporations not funeral homes, NYSFDA is providing
the public with some needed and appropriate reassurances that what
happened in Georgia is a virtual impossibility in New York State,
given our regulatory framework and oversight," Kowalczyk continued.
"NYSFDA is pleased to provide the public with this information on
cremation safeguards in our state as part of our ongoing consumer
education efforts."
Founded
in 1889, NYSFDA's mission is to promote the highest standards of
funeral service to families, and to enhance the environment in which
its members operate. More than 850 member firms and 3500 licensed
funeral directors who operate across the State belong to the New
York State Funeral Directors Association. In addition to maintaining
its Web site, NYSFDA also distributes "Transitions" - a consumer
information newspaper column and conducts ongoing educational sessions
for members and consumers.
