Funeral
Directors Explain Consumer Protections at Senior Citizens
Law Day
Albany, NY
-- November 3 -- "Consumers who
preplan their funerals should be aware that New York State
law has very specific requirements to ensure that any funds
set aside for a funeral will be available to the family at
the time of need", according to Randy McCullough, deputy
executive director at the New York State Funeral Directors
Association ( NYSFDA ).
McCullough and Ellen McNulty of the McNulty Funeral Home
in Green Island addressed participants at Saturday's Senior
Citizen's Law Day. In addition to answering participants' questions,
McNulty provided practical guidance for consumers wishing
to make funeral pre-arrangements and prepay their funeral
and burial costs.

program, NYSFDA has prepared the "Consumer's Checklist for Prefunding
a Funeral" which can be downloaded from the Website " www.nysfda.org". The
checklist reminds funeral preplanners to be sure they receive
all the essential paperwork as specified in the Funeral Consumer
Protection Act and other state laws, and gives a brief description
of their rights when they prepay a funeral.
